What Is Raw Meow Mix and Which One Is Right for Your Cat?
Raw Meow Mix is our range of meal completers designed to be added to boneless muscle meat to create a balanced raw meal for cats.
In simple terms, it does the hard part for you.
It is a powder you mix with water, then mix through plain muscle meat at the correct ratio. Plain muscle meat on its own is not a balanced diet for cats. Cats need more than meat alone, which is where Raw Meow Mix comes in.
Raw Meow Mix gives you a simple way to turn plain muscle meat into a balanced meal, without trying to work out calcium, organs, vitamins and minerals yourself.
Which Raw Meow Mix should you choose?
For most healthy adult cats
Choose Raw Meow Mix Adult
Adult is our everyday option for healthy adult cats. For most cats, that means from around 12 months of age. For large breed cats, adulthood may be closer to 2 years.
For kittens, pregnant cats and nursing cats
Choose Raw Meow Mix Kitten.
Kitten is designed specifically for growing kittens, and for queens during pregnancy and nursing. It contains higher calcium and phosphorus to support growth and development.
For cats needing lower phosphorus support
Choose Raw Meow Mix Low.
Low is our lower phosphorus, lower protein option with added fibre. It is generally considered when phosphorus has become a bigger dietary consideration.
It is not intended for healthy adult cats or growing kittens.
For cats with suspected sensitivities or novel protein needs
Choose Raw Meow Mix Hypo.
Hypo is our more specialised formula for cats who need a more targeted option using novel proteins.
It may be useful when ingredient choice is important, particularly in cases of suspected intolerance or when feeding a novel diet or elimination diet.
For cats needing no animal proteins in the mix
Choose Raw Meow Mix Neutral.
Neutral is designed for cats who need a formula with no animal proteins or animal derived ingredients in the powder.
It gives you another balanced option when those ingredients need to be avoided.
Why are there different versions?
Because cats are not all the same.
A healthy adult cat has different nutritional needs to a growing kitten. Some cats need a lower phosphorus approach. Some do better with simpler ingredients. Some need a formula designed for more specific situations.
Rather than pretending one mix suits every cat in every circumstance, we created a range that gives you options.

Raw Meow Mix Adult is formulated to meet the nutrient levels established by AAFCO for adult maintenance when added to muscle meat at the correct ratio.
Raw Meow Mix Kitten is formulated to meet the nutrient levels established by AAFCO for growth and gestation or lactation when added to muscle meat at the correct ratio.
Raw Meow Mix Low is formulated to meet the nutrient levels established by AAFCO for adult maintenance when added to muscle meat at the correct ratio.
Raw Meow Mix Hypo is formulated to meet the nutrient levels established by AAFCO for all life stages when added to muscle meat at the correct ratio.
Raw Meow Mix Neutral is formulated to meet the nutrient levels established by AAFCO for all life stages when added to muscle meat at the correct ratio.
Who formulated Raw Meow Mix?
Raw Meow Mix Adult was originally formulated by nutritionists at Massey University NZ.
The other formulas in the range were later developed by Denis M’Gee BSc, MAgSc, RAnNutr and Anna Sutton PhD RAusNutr, building on that original formulation to suit different life stages and nutritional needs.
The Raw Meow Mix range is currently monitored and tested by Anna Sutton PhD RAusNutr to ensure it continues to meet standards.
